If you have ever compared yourself to someone else, this is for you!
Today, it is so easy to pull up an app & fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others. Raise your hand if you’ve fallen victim to this… I see you. I’m 200% guilty of it too. I compare myself to other athletes, students, photographers, & bloggers all the time.
It’s easy for you to assume _______ (fill in the blank) just magically got to where she/he is now & has always had it all together. Truth is overnight success doesn’t exist. Everyone has to start somewhere, & then over multiple nights of success, it all adds up & starts to show through.
I know it’s easy, but do yourself a favor & stop comparing. If you are thinking about starting a photography business or something new, my best piece of advice is to stop comparing yourself & here are three reasons why
1. IT IS DISCOURAGING & OVERWHELMING
I know from experience it is discouraging & overwhelming to think about getting to where you want to be. If you’re anything like me, you ask yourself, “ how could I ever be as good as _______ (fill in the blank).” You focus on other people’s success rather than, the success you are going to reach. You think about all the things you would have to do to be like ______(fill in the blank).
Instead of spending your time comparing yourself, take one step forward! Comparing yourself doesn’t move you forward. So stop. Redirect your focus. & start investing in your success!
2. NO MATTER HOW BIG YOUR FIRST STEP IS, IT WILL NEVER BE AS BIG AS SOMEONE ELSE’S THOUSANDTH STEP.
There will always be someone further along in the race than you are, simple as that. They have a head start, but that’s it! That doesn’t mean you can’t get to where they are.
You have no idea how many steps it took for ________ (fill in the blank) to get where he/she is today, because the only thing shown to the public is where they are now. When it comes to success most people don’t show their past, because their present is so much better!
If you do fall into the trap of comparing again, I encourage you to search for _______’s first step. Go back & look at the first photo, post, product, or performance. Then maybe, just maybe, you can compare yourself. It is more realistic to compare your beginning to their beginning.
- IT TAKES AWAY FROM YOU
You are you! That is your superpower! Simple as that. Being “someone else” is a superpower that you can’t have, so stop wishing for it.
You offer something completely different, & that is something to celebrate!
SO YOU SHOULD STOP COMPARING & START >>>>>>
- Being you
- Embracing you
- Believing in you
- & investing in you
Because when you start thinking about your potential success more than the success ___________ (fill in the blank) is having, you will be more successful & happy!! & that’s a promise.
Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load.
CHALLENGE: I know you have one person you compare yourself too. My challenge to you is to seek out their beginning, you might be amazed at what you find
Here are pictures of my first step into the photography world… It’s okay if you laugh
If you want to compare yourself to me, compare yourself to my beginning!
Love you all,
