As a wedding photographer, it’s an absolute joy to capture your wedding day when you celebrate the culmination of the journey it took to get there — the laughter, the learning, the growth and the love that blossomed from it. It’s so exciting, and I’m so happy for you! I also know that you are going to have tons to think about! That’s why I wanted to talk about one of the big topics of wedding photography — the newlywed session — and why it’s a great idea to consider booking a newlywed session after your wedding day.
I know! It sounds a little off-kilter to have your newlywed session after your wedding day. I’m not telling you that you should buck tradition completely. What I am suggesting is that you play with the tradition, tweak it juuuust a little bit, and instead take a look at all the benefits of booking a newlywed session after your wedding. But first, let’s take a look at the big questions probably sitting in your mind right now.
What Is A Newlywed Session?
A newlywed session, also known as a post wedding photoshoot, is a photoshoot designed to give you extra time to capture stunning photos of you together, without taking you away from your wedding day and reception. It’s where we find those special, intimate, powerful locations that allow us to showcase your complete look — the hair, the make-up, the bouquet, and of course, the dress and tux!
Are post wedding photoshoots worth it? There are quite a few reasons to schedule a newlywed session after your wedding! Your wedding is a one-day event. This one day where you have the opportunity to try to translate all of the special moments onto film for you to keep for the rest of your lives. In my humble opinion, that’s exactly why you should consider doing a newlywed session! That day can often whizz by because of all of the hustle and bustle that goes into it. You’re going to want photos that truly capture the full glory of your look!
But the same reasons why I think you should do a newlywed session are the same reasons I think you should consider booking your newlywed session after your wedding day.
1. It Gives You The Chance To Look Your Absolute Best
By the time your sunset photoshoot comes around on your wedding day, you may not be looking as fresh as you did earlier that day (and for good reason – let loose)! Post wedding day sessions allow you to not feel rushed through the photography process on your wedding day! This way, you can both focus on being 100% fresh (and prepared for the Iowa heat!) to look your absolute best.
2. You Get The Chance To Enjoy Your Special Day More
Trying to squeeze in tons of photos on your wedding day can be tricky and limit the time you have to truly live in the moment and soak it all in! Taking more traditional photos can also take you away from genuine moments that could be happening elsewhere – like talking to a special family member, sharing happy tears and hugging beloved guests. Booking a newlywed session after your wedding gives you more time to enjoy your guests and be fully present on your wedding day.
3. A Post Wedding Photoshoot Helps You Feel More Natural And Free In The Shoot
It can be hard to feel natural when you have a million thoughts running through your head, or you’re wondering if your favorite aunt got seated in the right place. A post wedding photoshoot immediately wipes away all of that, and allows you to feel far more natural and present in the shoot itself and bask in the afterglow of all the magic that just happened! The wedding is over, and the rest of your life is beginning.
4. We Can Capture Far More Candid Shots If You Choose A Post Wedding Photoshoot
Also, there’s an added bonus to having a post wedding photoshoot. It gives me, as your wedding photographer, the opportunity to capture far more candid shots of all the things going on as your wedding day progresses. It doesn’t halt the flow of things, I don’t have to pull you out of your reception, off the dance floor, and away from friends and loved ones for a session — instead, you can just live in the moment and enjoy your wedding day at your own leisure! I find the photos that come from those moments are often the ones you end up treasuring the most.
I’m sure I’ve given you a lot to think about, and I know there’s even more that is going to come up. A million questions, a million thoughts. Luckily, I have a million and one answers for you! And if I don’t, we will figure out the answer together. I can’t wait to get started on the planning with you so reach out to me so we can get started!
