Advice From A Pro: How To Be More Present On Your Wedding Day

When it comes to your big day, you should get to enjoy it! This is why there’s nothing better than knowing how to be more present on your wedding day.

Your wedding is meant to be a day that you’ll remember for the rest of your life. It’s meant to be a day when your loved ones come together to celebrate you and the journey you are about to embark on. It’s meant to be a day where you smash cake (or pie, or whatever tickles your fancy) into each other’s faces, laugh and smile so hard that your face hurts for a few days after.

After all the weddings I’ve been lucky enough to participate in, I’ve picked up on tons of different ways to enjoy your wedding day more. This amazing list of wedding day tips for staying in the moment is probably the best kind of wedding day advice for couples that I can give. You know, besides hiring the right photographer (wink wink lol.)

How To Be More Present On Your Wedding Day

Let It Go

When it comes to learning how to live in the moment on your wedding day, my biggest tip is to let go. I know, that sounds so much easier said than done, but if you can figure out how to let go of certain things before the day gets started, you’ll find yourself floating along a lot easier than you would have thought.

When I say to let go, here’s what I mean:

Let Go Of Expectations

This is some of the best advice on your wedding day that I can offer! There’s a saying that I truly adore that says “comparison is the thief of joy” and I couldn’t agree more. When it comes to weddings, and the wedding industry that fuels it, there can be these unrealistic ideas of what the “ideal wedding” looks like.

Don’t let these ideals get stuck in your head and take away from the big picture. One of my biggest tips on how to be more present on your wedding day is to remember that you’re marrying your best friend and the person that you want to spend the rest of your life with!

Even if a few small aspects of the day aren’t “perfect,” it IS perfect.

Let Go Of Social Media

Don’t worry about whether you’re getting the best angles for Instagram, or the funniest reels for TikTok. You’ve got an amazing photographer who is going to take care of all of that for you!

Let Go Of The Timeline

Everything has to flow on somewhat of a schedule, but that’s what your hired staff is for! Vendors will help keep things on time with events, food and drinks, and as your photographer, I’m here to make sure that I keep your timeline spread out enough that you get the opportunity to breathe, enjoy and take it all in.

Another great tip on how to stay relaxed on your wedding day is to hire a day-of planner or coordinator. It’s their literal job to worry about all the things that would prevent you from being able to stay relaxed, and present, on your big day. They aren’t just there to help you with the minute-to-minute stuff, they’re there to offer you peace of mind amidst what can feel like chaos.

I have an amazing coordinating team I can recommend, but if it isn’t in the budget, no worries! This is where you enlist that really amazing friend to help delegate to.

Go In With The Right Mindset: Gratitude

Even though it feels like your wedding day is for everyone else, what with the dinner, huge party, and all the pre-planning that went into it – but in reality, your wedding is for you. It’s a deeply internal thing meant to be experienced and enjoyed by you as much as possible.

This is why one of my favorite wedding tips for couples is to make sure that you walk into the day with the mindset of gratitude. That you make the space throughout the day to step back and take it all in and be grateful for all of it. If I had to put my money on it, I would say that walking into your big day with an abundance of gratitude is the most important thing you can do throughout the day.

The Couple That Stays Together, Gets The Best Captures Together

You never realize how easy it is to get separated from your partner on the big day until the big day comes. Suddenly you’re bombarded by well-wishers, partygoers and so many people who want to make sure that they celebrate you, that sometimes you don’t even notice you’ve ended up on the opposite end of the room as your spouse!

This isn’t the worst thing in the world when it comes to mingling, but it can be when it comes to getting those amazing candid shots that couples love to look back on.

When In Doubt, Book A Newlywed Session

Another one of my wedding tips for couples when it comes to the big day is don’t try to make sure you can be in a million places at once. From getting ready to walking down the aisle, to driving away from the reception for the first time as a married couple – things can become a true whirlwind.

Booking a newlywed session gives you two more chances throughout the day to enjoy the moments that come with your wedding. It’s not a must but it’s definitely something to consider.
